Rugged tablets and controllers without a first-party film

Rugged device OEMs ship first-party screen protectors for their flagship SKUs, and stop there. Everything older, everything specialty, and most field-adjacent hardware falls into a long tail with no first-party film and, often, no documented aftermarket option either. This page names the pattern, lists the long tail from the ScreenProtector.org catalog, and states what a custom cutter needs to quote those models. Catalog data as of 2026-09-05.

The pattern: first-party films for flagships only

Where first-party films exist, they are real products with real part numbers. Panasonic documents the FZ-VPF38U screen protector for the Toughbook G2 (Panasonic accessory page) and lists the FZ-VPF39U anti-reflective film for the Toughbook 40 in its official accessory guide (Toughbook 40 accessory guide (PDF)). Getac sells model-specific protection films across its current line (Getac LCD screen protection film GMPFXR; anti-glare variant GMPFXV). The same catalogs show the edge of that coverage. Panasonic’s Toughbook 56 and Toughbook FZ-M1 carry no first-party SKU in our catalog, and the Zebra ET45’s documented protector is a third-party accessory part rather than a Zebra SKU. Coverage thins fastest outside the current flagship line, which is where fleets with mixed generations feel it.

First-party vs any option: read the two gaps separately

Two different gaps get conflated. The first-party gap means no OEM accessory SKU (this page’s subject). The any-option gap means neither a first-party SKU nor a documented aftermarket product. They are not the same list: the Trimble TSC7 controller has a documented aftermarket option in our catalog (an anti-glare film line) while its first-party status is unresearched, and the Topcon FC-5000 has documented aftermarket coverage with a verified absent first-party SKU. The long tail from our catalog

124 of 192 researched field tablets (65%) have no documented first-party or aftermarket option. The models fleets actually run sit throughout it: the Toughbook 56 and Toughbook FZ-M1, the Leica CS35 and Trimble T7 survey hardware, the Handheld Group Algiz 10X, MobileDemand xTablets, DT Research units, the Winmate M700DM9, Case IH AFS Pro 700 displays, and a band of ELD and fleet displays (Garmin dēzl, PeopleNet Display.4/5, Omnitracs MCP200, EROAD Ehubo2, Zonar Connect, Webfleet PRO). 58 of the 124 are education-class Chromebook models, which share the field_tablet class in our taxonomy and the same unprotected economics.

Diagonals are sourced device screen dimensions where the manufacturer publishes them; unknown stays unknown. Screen dimensions are the device’s active display area and are never protector cut dimensions. Cut dimensions depend on bezel geometry and adhesive design and require confirmation with the supplier before any production run.

What custom cutters need to quote one

A long-tail quote needs five things, and the table above plus the linked device pages supply most of them: the exact model and variant; quantity and replacement cadence; screen diagonal (sourced where the OEM publishes it, unknown otherwise); touch technology where known, because thickness and adhesion interact with the controller; and the deployment environment, which drives material choice. What no one can supply from a catalog is the cut: bezel geometry, camera and sensor cutouts, and adhesive design are confirmed with the supplier against a physical unit before production. That is a feature of honest quoting, not a limitation. Method and limits

The counts and table on this page derive at build time from the ScreenProtector.org device catalog (researched records only; catalog-pending models are excluded). A model counts as having a documented option only when we verified a first-party accessory SKU or loaded a specific aftermarket product page for that exact model. Absence is a statement about what our sourcing found as of 2026-09-05, not about what exists; several long-tail models have active custom-cut suppliers who simply do not publish per-model pages.
